Homemade Pizza

My family LOVES Homemade Pizza!  I've been making it for awhile now, but just recently started making the dough from scratch!  I used to use the pizza dough mixes from the store, but since I started couponing I hardly ever see a coupon for those so I decided to try and make them from scratch.  Guess what??  It's easy!!  Here's a quick recipe for my family's homemade pizza!

No Yeast Pizza Dough

·         2 cups all purpose flour
·         1 tbsp baking powder
·         1/4 tsp salt
·         2/3 cup water
·         1 tbsp cooking oil

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Prepare pizza pan (I use pizza stones) by spraying with non-stick cooking spray. Combine dry ingredients in mixing bowl. Add liquids and stir to incorporate dry ingredients. Knead dough by hand on a lightly floured surface. Roll dough thinly. Place rolled dough onto prepared pizza pan and place in oven for 2-3 minutes to pre-cook the crust.  Remove from oven, add favorite sauce and toppings. Bake at 400 degrees for 12-15 minutes, depending on crust thickness.

This particular time I used pizza sauce (of course), onions, cheese, hamburger meat & pepperonis.  But you can always change up the toppings.  Next time, I’d like to try a healthier version with some fresh veggies.  Or maybe even a chicken pizza!

By the way, I’d like to start making my own spaghetti and pizza sauce.  Anyone have a great recipe you’d like to share with me??  I’d love to hear it!  Thanks!

Savings 101, Part 7 :: When Should I Use My Coupons?

This is a continuation of the Savings 101 series I have currently been doing.

Okay, so you’ve already learned some of the basics of using your coupons, but what about knowing when to use your coupon.  One of the problems I had back when I first started trying to get the hang of saving with coupons was the thought that as soon as I received the coupon I needed to go to the store and use it.  That was so wrong!  Just because you may receive a great $3 off coupon in the newspaper insert one weekend doesn’t mean you have to go out the very next day to use it!  Most coupons don’t expire for at least a couple of months, so we need to be strategic about when to use the coupon.  The secret: always pair your coupons with a sale.  Always!

Here are a few easy tips to help you know the best time to use your coupon:

1.      Track the sales:  Make yourself a price book of the items that you buy most often.  You’ll want to track the regular price, the sale price, and then the rock bottom price.  Once you’ve compiled a list (and after a few weeks of couponing) you’ll start to see a trend in the sales and it will become more natural for you to know when to pair your coupon with the sale.  For the maximum savings you’ll want to save your coupon for the rock bottom price, if possible.
2.      Use Coupon Matchups:  Each week I (as well as many other blogs) do several store matchups.  If you check some of these matchups they will tell you exactly which coupon to use with which item.  All you have to do is make your grocery list from the matchup list.  You’ll start to build a small stockpile after a few weeks and eventually all you’ll have to buy are the items that are rock bottom price each week, other than milk and produce.
3.      Stack Your Coupons:  Stacking coupons is when you use one manufacturer coupon along with a store coupon.  You have to know your store coupon policies to make sure this is allowed, but most stores that have store coupons do allow stacking.  For example, Scott Paper Towels were on sale at Walgreens this week for $5.  There was a $1 off Walgreens coupon in their April coupon booklet.  I also found a $1.50 off manufacturer coupon on the Scott website.  That means I ended up getting $2.50 off the $5 package of paper towels!  That’s 6 rolls of paper towels for just $2.50—or $.42 each!  Stacking is one of the best ways to maximize savings at stores that do not double coupons.
4.      Price Match:  Okay, so you’re busy and tired and don’t have time to go to several different stores this week.  Guess what?  Walmart price matches.  So, if you were planning to shop some sales but can’t go to 10 different stores this week try taking your ad to Walmart and price matching.  Add your coupons on top of that to maximize your savings there.  (I personally, don’t shop a whole lot at Walmart because I’m addicted to the double coupons and the RR/ECB’s at the drug stores.  You can usually end up getting much better deals if you know how to work the drug store game)  I will try to have a post about that soon.

So, that’s it!  Remember to always use your coupons with a sale to maximize your savings potential.  If your coupon expiration is nearing and you still haven’t seen the item on sale, then you make the decision if it’s worth it to you to use the coupon without the sale or not.  To me, it just depends on the product and how many of them I have in stock.

Stay tuned for the next part of Savings 101 coming next week!

Apple Market Shopping Trip 4/7/11

Since I was sort of disappointed with the Homeland deals this week I decided to skip my weekly shopping trip there this time.....  What???  I know, you can't believe it, can you?  But, I couldn't skip my coupon therapy all together!  So, I decided to hit Apple Market after Walgreens today.  I did have to buy a few things I didn't have a coupon for (my husband called and wanted coke and ingredients for me to make homeade cookies), so that may reflect in my savings.  Here's what I was able to get:

1 Carton of eggs (no coupon, needed them for the cookies)
2 Garnier Fructis Conditioners--I found these on clearance, FREE after coupons
1 Coke (again, no coupon, just for my hubby's craving)
1 Sunny Delight--$.79
2 Malt-o-Meal Frosted Flakes--FREE after coupons
4 PictSweet Frozen Veggies--$.24 each after coupon
1 Kraft Shredded Cheese--FREE after coupon
3 Taco Bell Taco Seasonings--$.69 each (my coupon stated buy 3 taco bell seasonings get Kraft cheese FREE)
8 Buddig Lunch Meat--FREE after coupon
1 Best Choice Milk Chocolate Chips (you guessed it! no coupon! homemade cookie ingredients!)

Totals Before Coupons:  $26.80
Total After Coupons: $11.33
Savings Percentage: 68%

Just because of my curiosity I wanted to figure the savings percentage not counting the homemade cookie ingredients and the coke--Total spent would have been only $5.41, savings percentage would have been 74%!  That's quite a bit of difference!  Exactly the reason I don't like to buy things without a coupon!  Oh well.....

Walgreens Shopping Trip 4/7/11

It's been a couple of weeks since I've been shopping over at Walgreens, but earlier this week when I was reorganizing my coupon box I noticed that I had a $5 RR that was going to expire today.  I couldn't let $5 go to waste, so I decided to make today my shopping day!  Walgreens had several nice deals this week anyway and I had planned on taking advantage of them already.  So here's what I was able to get:

(The pretty little girl in the back was not purchased at Walgreens!)  ;)

1 Pantene Shampoo
1 Pantene Conditioner
2 Colgate MaxFresh Whitening Toothpaste
2 Pampers Diapers
2 Olay Bar Soap 4 count
1 Pampers Wipes
2 Color Wonder to-go packs
2 Scott Papertowels 6 pk

Totals Before Coupons & RR: $72.49! (Ouch)

Total after Coupons & $7 RR: $25.08 plus I received back $11 in RR for next week!!

That means total OOP for EVERYTHING pictured above was only $14.08!  Not bad!
Savings percentage: 81%!

Country Mart Deals 4/6-4/12

Here are this week's match-ups for Country Mart!

These matchups cover the Country Mart stores in Bixby, Glenpool, & Coweta.

The Country Mart coupon policy states that they double coupons up to $.50.  If you use more than one “like” coupon you will have to do multiple transactions for the second one to double.  If you need help reading some of the abbreviations you can check out my post on how to read coupon lingo!

**First the meat! Always take your meat coupons. Look for the meat that they have reduced for quick sale.  It's still good, and if you do this you can usually get your meat for $1 or less!!
