My Shopping Trip Today :: Dollar General, Apple Market & Nichols!

I normally like to do my shopping trips on Wednesdays, but since we were sick yesterday that didn't happen!  However, thankfully today we woke up feeling much better, so I was able to get out and get my shopping done!

I had to make three stops today, Apple Market, Nichols and Dollar General.  Normally I like to price match at Nichols so I only have one stop to make, but this time I had to go in to each store.  Apple Market had some unadvertised deals I wanted to pick up that I wouldn't be able to price match.  And Dollar General had Tilex on sale in a size that Nichols didn't carry so I couldn't price match that either.

Here's what I bought:

My total amount BEFORE coupons was $45.52

Total amount AFTER coupons was only $7.37!  That's 84% savings!!

Here is the breakdown:

Dollar General ::

(2) Tilex Mold & Mildew Remover, reg. price $2.25, on sale for $2 each, used (2) $2/1 coupons no longer available = $.37 (just tax)

Total BEFORE coupons :: $4.87
Total AFTER coupons :: $.37

Apple Market ::

(3) Colgate Toothpaste marked down to $.99 each, used (3) $.50/1 coupons from inserts, and bought three different varieties so all coupons would double = all three for FREE

(4) Lady Speed Stick Deodorant, marked down to $1 each, used (2) BOGO FREE coupons from inserts = $.50 each

Total BEFORE coupons :: $6.97
Total AFTER coupons :: $1.18

Nichols ::

2 Boxes Grape Nuts, reg. price $4.19, price matched to Walgreens for $2.00, used  (2) $1/1 from inserts = FREE (2 transactions)

2 Boxes Post Raisin Bran, reg. price $4.19, price matched to Walgreens for $2.00, used (2) $1/1 from inserts = FREE (2 transactions)

2 Bumble Bee Tuna, used $1/2 from Recyclebank = FREE

2 Old Orchard Apple Juice, used $.50/1 coupons previously available = $1.29 each (I normally don't pay this much, but my coupons expired today and my girls drink a lot of juice).

2 Welch's Grape Juice, reg. price $4.69, price matched to Walgreens for $2.99, used (2) $1/1 coupon = $.99 each (2 transactions)

Total BEFORE coupons :: $33.98
Total AFTER coupons :: $5.82

My total amount spent at all three stores BEFORE coupons was $45.52

Total amount spent at all three stores AFTER coupons was only $7.37!  That's 84% savings!!

  1. Does it work the same way at Homeland when they double the coupon. If you buy two of the same item, but buy them in different varieties, like you did with the Colgate toothpaste, will it double more than one coupon even if the coupon is the same? I have never tried that. I just make a million trips to Homeland every week!

  2. No, it doesn't work the same way at Homeland, unfortunately. At Homeland the wording on the policy says that no "like" coupons will double. At Apple Market it says that no coupons will double on "like" items. :) Hope that makes sense. And sorry, you'll still have to make a million trips to Homeland. :)
