Our New Homeschool Room!

Over this past week you may have noticed my posts being a little hit and miss.  Tonight I thought I'd offer up a little explanation to why I've been somewhat absent around here....

After much prayer, talking, researching and thinking my husband and I have decided to homeschool our oldest daughter for Pre-K this year.  She will be turning 4 in just five days and she is showing a lot of interest in learning, but we just aren't prepared to send her to public school.  We have made this decision based on a lot of different things.  Even though we aren't completely certain that we will continue homeschooling in the future, we have decided to let Pre-K be our test run, see how it goes, and then reevaluate before kindergarten.  We will then decide whether to continue homeschooling or moving into the public system.

Needless to say, we had a LOT of reorganizing to do to our home to get things ready.  I'm sort of an OCD person when it comes to organization anyway, so I made this into a complete house organization makeover.  I started in the girls' rooms, and worked my way through every single drawer, closet and cabinet in my house!  I purged a lot and set it aside for donation or consignment sales!  I spent pretty much the last week completing everything (you get interrupted a lot when you have an almost 4 year old and a 20 month old :) )!

After I finished everything I wanted to share a few pictures of our new homeschool room!  I'm SO excited to get started with pre-k!  And now that I have a cute, organized room I'm even more ready to get with it!

The room is not huge, but it serves as a pretty multi-functional space.  We have our computer desk on the other end of the room along with the piano (which you can see part of)....this is the view of the half of the room that will be our school area.

We didn't want to spend a fortune on a "real" preschool height table--especially since we are doing this year as more of a trial, so we got an affordable coffee table and set it up to work as a desk!

Next, we have the other corner of the room with some of our shelves and our little tv where we  may watch some videos--educational, of course! ;)

I LOVE my pocket chart calendar I purchased from Amazon!  Also, some cheap file crates to help store some of my lesson plans and other files!

And lastly, my favorite part!  My cube storage organizers!  Each cube is labeled to help us stay organized--told ya I was OCD!  I even have an empty fabric box for library books so we can make sure to keep up with them!  I got tired of seeing a pile of books out all the time!

And, there you have it!  Our new schoolroom!  I'm excited, nervous, anxious, and more for this new adventure!

If you're a local homeschooling family with young children I'd love to meet you!  I need all the support I can get to figure all of this out!

  4. This looks really neat! I'm actually a father looking to do start home school for my 3 year old because currently Daycare is just way too pricey here where I live (Houston). I was just wondering where you got those neat posters?

Great job! I have OCD as well, lol.

    1. Hi Owen!

Thanks! We actually bought the posters at Dollar Tree. There were about 4 (I think) in a package for just $1! Dollar Tree has a lot of school supplies--especially for the younger ages! :)

      Good luck!
