Here's What We've Been Up To This Week! (Birthday, First Day of School)

This past week has been a busy one for our family!  Last Tuesday, the 29th of July, my oldest celebrated her 6th birthday!  We traveled to Oklahoma City for a day of "fun."  She got to choose one gift, we ate at a Mexican restaurant (her choice) and picked up a cookie cake to celebrate!

After that, we had a week full of planning birthday party stuff, homeschooling stuff, and all kinds of other things!  We had her party on Friday evening and then went on a float trip to the Illinois River on Saturday with our Sunday School class.

I wasn't quite sure I would have everything finished in time to start school on Monday, but she was very excited and I really was ready to get back into the routine as well.....so yesterday, August 4th, was her very first day of first grade!

Over the next few weeks we are going to focus on reviewing some things from Kindergarten, finishing up our "The Reading Lesson" curriculum that we didn't quite finish last year, reviewing the pre-k and k sight words, as well as working on simple addition, calendar, writing and reading a book or two a day. At the beginning of September we will dive head first into the full first grade curriculum!  I will write a post on the curriculum I chose and why at a later date.....

In the meantime, this is what happens to a baby when she is listening to a six year old try to read a book after lunch.....Naptime, you think?  I have to admit listening to a six year old sometimes makes me want to fall over and sleep too!

That's my week in review!  I don't know if y'all really care about my day to day life, but I thought it might help you to see a little bit of the "real" me every once in awhile.  Have a great week!
