Iesodo (Yay-So-Do): "Joy" :: Christian Animated DVD Review

I recently received the movie, Iesodo (The Way of Jesus)--Joy, from a company to review.

Iesodo is a family friendly, Christian, animated movie.  The main character is a wise dove named Iesodo (pronounced Yay-So-Do).  His name literally means: "The Way of Jesus."  He and his other bird friends live in the Holy Land in a Cypress Tree on the Sea of Galilee.
This particular DVD was called “Joy,” and is a version of the Christmas story.  Three wise owls from the East visit King Harold, a peacock, to tell him about the newborn King.

I previously received another Iesodo DVD to review, so I had great expectations for this one—especially since it was a Christmas movie!  My girls absolutely loved it!  We turned on this DVD and watched it together.
The animation was very cute--good graphics.  The music and the lyrics of the songs were catchy and easy to sing along as well as very touching and biblically focused. They weren't cheesy or boring.  There were several teachable moments where we could stop and talk about how the cartoon we were watching represented the Christmas story told in the Bible.
In fact, it didn’t take very long for my oldest daughter who is 6 years old to make that connection on her own.  Two birds, Joe and Molly were traveling to his homeland to be counted.  Molly was expecting a baby to be born.  Once that was laid out, my oldest daughter immediately said: “I think this represents Jesus!”  She also noticed that King Harold, the peacock, mirrored King Herod from the biblical account.

The overall message of the DVD is a message that is vital to teaching our children who are growing up in this world that has been overrun with negative examples.  These cartoons had a positive message, a message that is Biblical and one that I would much rather my kids learn than the alternative of secular television.

Okay, so it’s nice and sweet, clean and bibilical.  But do the kids like it?  Does it keep their attention?  The answer, in our case, was yes!  My girls loved that they were getting ready to throw Iesodo a birthday party.  One of them said: “Birthday parties are so fun!”  As soon as we finished watching it I had to start it over because they were ready to watch it again!
The only thing I didn’t quite agree with was that this particular account had the three wise owls visit Iesodo the night he was born.  According to the biblical account, the wise men didn’t come for another couple of years.  However, since almost every Christmas nativity around includes the wise men, I wouldn’t consider this a big problem.  I can just explain to my girls that we believe the wise men came when Jesus was just a little older.  The main point of the DVD stayed very true to the New Testament story.

After watching this DVD, I definitely would recommend this series to other parents who are looking for good, wholesome, Christian entertainment for their children!  Look for Iesodo videos in your Christian bookstores or online.  You can also visit their
facebook page here!

This review was for the Iesodo DVD entitled "Joy," but there are numerous other DVDs in the series! There are even several available on
Amazon if you are interested in checking them out.

Disclaimer: I was compensated $25 for reviewing this DVD as well as being able to keep the DVD for our family.  All opinions stated are honest opinions and my own thoughts about the DVD.  I would have enjoyed it and recommended it as a great Christian resource whether or not I had been compensated!  :)
