14 of My Favorite Money Saving Apps

If you have a smartphone, then you have a wonderful tool to help you save even more money! There are numerous apps dedicated to saving. Whether they are mobile coupons, rebates or something else, they are all beneficial.

I’ve made a list of some of my very favorite money saving apps. I’m sure there are many more that I didn’t list, but this list is comprised of some that I use regularly and enjoy the most!

1. IBOTTA
ibotta is, in my opinion, one of the best. This app offers the most rebates which are available at several different retailers.  You just choose the store you’ll be shopping at and then unlock the offers for the items you plan to buy. After your purchase, you simply scan the barcodes of the items and upload your receipt to claim your rebate.

Once your balance reaches $20, you can request a payout.  I usually select a payout through PayPal.  However, you can also choose from dozens of gift cards such as Sam’s club, Olive Garden, GAP, Best Buy, Old Navy, Amazon, Papa John’s and many more.

Another plus of Ibotta is that you can build a team (with all of your Facebook friends also using the ibotta app) and earn extra bonuses.  And, you also get an extra bonus (sometimes $5, sometimes $10) when you download the app and redeem your first rebate.

MobiSave is a newer money saving app.  One positive of this one is that there are rebates for any brand of a certain item.  For example, save 10 cents on any brand of Bacon.  This makes it easy to get whatever brand you normally get and still save some extra change!

MobiSave resets on Mondays.  With this app, you have to check it before shopping.  You’ll need to have the rebates already added to your cart before you checkout.

MobiSave pays you immediately (yay!)– no need to save up until a certain threshold. The money goes straight into your PayPal account.

Checkout51 has always been one of my favorites! They have several offers that change every Thursday.  Each receipt submission must be purchased and submitted by midnight on Wednesdays, before the offers change.

This app is great because every week you get to pick one produce item (from a list of five) that saves you 25¢. I also prefer this app because it doesn’t have specific retailers.  You just simply upload your receipt from ANY retailer.  This helps us in Ada where stores like Nichols and Apple Market are no included in most money saving apps lists of retailers.

Request your payment via check, and you’ll receive it in the mail relatively quickly.  The account threshold for payment is $20.

4. AMAZON
I absolutely recommend this Amazon app!   One of my favorite ways to use this app is when I’m out shopping.  If I come across something I am thinking about purchasing, I like to pull out this app and double check the Amazon price.  I compare it to the price I’m looking at in the store and if it’s cheaper on the Amazon app, I order it there instead.  Since I have Prime, shipping is free!

Berry Cart is a great app for those more focused on healthy eating styles.  They have several options for vegetarian, vegan or organic/non-GMO food lovers.

This app shows the restaurants offering cheap/free kids meals.  Who goes out to eat with children and doesn’t look for kid’s meal deals!  You definitely need to download this one!

From the survey I offered on the blog a few days ago, I concluded that most of my readers shop at Walmart as their main store.  If you are one of those readers and you don’t already have this app, you need to download it now!  All you do is scan your receipt and it does all the work.  The app automatically price matches your receipt to other local receipts and finds the lowest price.  If they find a price lower than the one you paid at Walmart, they will add the  money back to your account!  This money goes onto a virtual giftcard.  You can use this giftcard to pay for future shopping trips at Walmart!  This app is a must-have.

With Shopkick, you can get “kicks” for scanning items in the store.  Just scan the barcode of certain items and you’ll earn kicks that you can use toward gift cards!

Shopmium offers cash back at various retailers.  One your rebate submission is approved, they will deposit the funds directly into your PayPal account.  Use my referral code (YFKECAWX) and you’ll get a FREE Lindt Chocolate bar!

This app offers cash back on various brands.  When shopping, you’ll need to scan the barcode of the item you purchased, then upload a photo of your receipt within the app.  The funds will be added to your account.  You can then request payment via PayPal, Amazon or other gift cards.

11.  EBATES
I have learned to always check Ebates when shopping online.  This website is great because you earn cashback for making online purchases!  The amounts vary, but you can earn anywhere from 1% to sometimes up to 15% on cashback purchases that you are making.  Download the app so you can use this when you shop online from your phone!

I never purchase anything online without checking this website first! But, if you download the app you will be able to find in-store savings when you are out shopping as well!

If you’re a military family, this app tells you which businesses and/or restaurants in your area offer military discounts!

This app rewards you for scanning your receipts.  You will earn coins for each receipt you submit, then you turn those coins into real cash.  Just make sure to submit your receipt within 7 days of the purchase date.

Snow Ice Cream Recipe PLUS Low Carb, Sugar Free Snow Ice Cream Recipe!

My girls were begging me today to go outside and play in the snow--we don't get it often here in Oklahoma, you know!  And then, their dad's office closed at 1pm and he got home early!  It seemed like the perfect time to take advantage to go play in the snow as a family!  They ran around, threw snowballs, tried to build a snowman...and we all got a little cold.

My oldest daughter, with motive behind her question, I'm sure, said to me: "Mom, you remember that time you made snow ice cream?  It was really good!"  So, what better afternoon snack is there than snow ice cream on a snow day?  We gathered up some snow in a couple of bowls and ran inside to our warm house!

I made the regular version of snow ice cream for my husband and girls, and I really wanted to have some myself, but since I'm trying to eat healthy I had to get creative.  I decided to make a healthier version!  I made a low carb, sugar-free, THM-approved snow ice cream and it was DELICIOUS!

You can google and find numerous recipes for regular snow ice cream online.  Here's our version:

Snow Ice Cream

About 8 cups of snow
1 cup of milk
1/3 cup of sugar
1 tsp of vanilla
sprinkle of sea salt

Directions: Simply mix it all together and stir.  Add sprinkles or chocolate chips if desired.  Serve immediately because it melts quickly!

Now, using the same idea from above, make just a couple of tweaks to make it healthier!  Also, I was the only one eating this version so I didn't make quite as much....

Low Carb, Sugar Free, THM-Approved Snow Ice Cream

2-3 cups of snow
1/4 cup of heavy cream
1-2 tsp Homemade Truvia®
1/2 tsp vanilla
sprinkle of sea salt

Directions: Simply mix together and stir.  You can adjust liquid or sweetness by taste if desired.  Eat immediately because it melts...and because it is soooo good!

Enjoy!

Homemade Sugar Substitute--Homemade Truvia®

One of the main principles of Trim Healthy Mama is to completely cut out sugar.  This can be quite a hard task, but so beneficial for our bodies.  I know when I consistently follow the Trim Healthy Mama plan, I feel so much better--a lot of that due to less inflammation because of better food choices and less sugar.

THM has approved sweeteners--mostly stevia and a couple of other natural sweeteners.  They even sell some of their versions in their online store.  However, since you all know me as a pretty frugal girl, I just had to figure out a more economical way.  I've been making my own for a couple of years!
I originally bought a container of Truvia® at Walmart.  I liked it, it's stevia--so THM approved, and it worked to help with my sweet cravings.  But, it's a rather small container and it can cost around $7.  If you start any kind of actual baking you'll find you run out of it rather quickly.

So, I decided it would be more frugal to make my own version of Truvia®.

You'll need a container (I use my old Truvia® container), some Erythritol and PURE Stevia.  The links are to the brands I use.

Homemade Truvia:

1 cup of Erythritol
1/2 tsp of Stevia

Directions:  Simply meaure the Erythritol and Stevia into your container.  Close the container and shake it up to mix it well!  You now have homemade Truvia®!

You can find Now Brand Erythritol on Amazon or Jet.com for around $15 for 2.5lbs.  Since you only use a cup at a time to make this recipe, it ends up lasting quite awhile.  The PURE Stevia I use is the Trim Healthy Mama Brand.  You can find it here for $10.99.  Believe me when I say this bag lasts forever!!  I just now--today--opened my 2nd bag of this and I've been doing THM off and on for about 4-5 years!  You only use 1/2 tsp or less at a time because it is very potent!

So, all in all, you can make your own homemade version of Truvia® multiple times for the price of only buying 2-3 containers of Truvia® at Walmart.

**Also, if you are new to Jet.com you can save 15% on your first 3 orders!  Just enter code WELCOME15 at checkout!

Trim Healthy Mama Peach Tea GGMS

Picture of GGMS already half gone because it's just so good!

If you are interested in Trim Healthy Mama or have done it for any length of time, you've probably heard of a special drink called GGMS--or Good Girl Moon Shine.  Now, finish reading with me before you jump to conclusions!  This drink is a kicker and can be rather tangy or zingy, but not because it's bad for you!  This drink is the total opposite.  It detoxifies, clarifies, alkalizes and helps with weight loss as well!  It is great for hydrating your body and also helping you to break the soda habit!

There are so many different variations of the GGMS, but my very favorite is one I came up with using Peach flavored Tea!  In my opinion, the peach tea helps to make the flavor of the Apple Cider Vinegar more mild.

Here's what you'll need:

1 to 2 TBSP of Apple Cider Vinegar (with the mother)--you may want to start with 1 and gradually increase.
1 tsp of ground ginger
Plan approved sweetener of some kind (I use liquid stevia pictured)
2 bags of peach tea
Water and ice cubes

Directions:

Add two peach tea bags to 16oz of water and let steep in a large 32oz Mason Jar.  I do this in the morning before we start school and by lunch time it's ready.  Once your tea is ready to go, simply add in 1-2 TBSP of Apple Cider Vinegar, 1 tsp of ground ginger and then sweeten to taste.  Then you just fill the rest of it up with water and ice.

This is what Trim Healthy Mama calls a "sipper."  It is not a fuel source (carbs or fat) so we can sip on it to our heart's content.

Apple Cider Vinegar has so many health benefits.  I know it's hard to get past the vinegar smell and flavor, but I knkow when I'm drinking this regularly I can tell a difference!

Hope you enjoy my version of the GGMS!

Our Daily Schedule and Homeschool Schedule

As I mentioned in a post a few days ago, one thing I want to do this year is expand my blog into more than just a "coupon" blog. I want to share more of our real life. Part of that will be my journey to minimalism, my Trim Healthy Mama eating plan, our homeschooling antics, and even more.

Tonight I want to share a small peek into our homeschool life. I am currently teaching our oldest daughter (H1) who is 8 years old and in 3rd grade and also our middle daughter (H2) who is 6 years old and in Kindergarten. Our 3 year old (H3) is what I call the class clown...or "distraction!" We use Heart of Dakota Curriculum and are currently working through Bigger Hearts for His Glory with my oldest and Little Hearts for His Glory with my middle. We use Math-U-See as our math curriculum.

I'll talk more about our curriculum choices and all the books we use in a later post. Tonight, I just wanted to share how our daily schedule works. I'm a pretty organized, planned-out, girl. It's very hard for me to be spontaneous. So, as my Type A personality demands, I am a slave to making lists, calendars, schedules and on and on. Haha!

Because we are busy and I try to fit a lot into a day, it requires that I am organized and try to stick to the routine. Plus, life just goes so much more smoothly when we are in our routine. My girls act better, fight less and I'm in a better mood when things are going smoothly.

Since we moved in November our schedule has been crazy! I've not done a good job at all with my workouts, eating or much else. Starting tomorrow, we are back to the grind. Workouts, eating healthy, homeschool, ALL start back tomorrow. As you can see below, I allow plenty of time for school....basically from 9am until 2pm-3pm depending on the day. We are normally finished way before then, and if that's the case then it just means we can finish the other stuff on our list early, have more free time, run errands or just have fun!

Daily Schedule:

(if you click on it, it gets bigger so you can actually see it!)

As far as our school goes, I also like to have an order/schedule. There are no set times to the subjects, but I just try to alternate them so that one does more independent work while the other is doing something that I need to help them with. Also so neither of them need the computer at the same time. When one of them finishes the subject they are working on, they simply go down to the next subject on their list.

THM Friendly Printable Coupons

If you haven't heard of Trim Healthy Mama, it's a healthy way of eating that focuses on balancing the blood sugar through eating all meals and snacks around a protein source.  The main premise is to separate your fuels (carbs and fats) and to combine them with a protein source.  All while cutting out sugar.  I have been a Trim Healthy Mama (off and on) for about 4 years now.  This is the one and only plan that truly works for me...when I stay on track.

I'll explain more about Trim Healthy Mama in another blog post soon.  But for now, if you are a Trim Healthy Mama or if you've been playing around with doing it for awhile, then I have a list of coupons for you!  Who doesn't want to save money and be able to eat healthy too?
